Some more news about your lodge and the activities of late… the Madeira Festival has come and gone with fireworks and all. On Friday July 2nd several of the Brethren of your lodge were in Selman Park as a part of the festival to provide hot dogs, burgers, soda and bottled water to the starving masses of Madeira following the 4th of July parade.
Our day began around 12 noon as we gathered the last of the supplies, loaded up 2 pickup trucks, 2 cars and headed to the park. The parade was at 6:00pm and the serving began around 7:30pm and continued at a hectic pace until about 9:30pm and we sold out of hotdogs, brats, metts and the buns for them. We had a few burgers, some soda and water left over to return to the lodge along with the cleaning of the serving utensils and the “festival gas grill”. When it was all said and done we completed the cleanup of the grill and got the coolers, soda and supplies back in the lodge by 2:15am and called it a day.
All in all your lodge gathered a good sum in proceeds to add to the lodge coffers as well as those of us that were able to participate had a good time with the entire day and each other.
One of the long term groups that meet at your lodge, Ideal Court # 4, Order of the Amaranth held their “Ideal Picnic and pet dog show” in the lodge picnic area on Saturday July 10, 2010. The invites had been made in several ways and for those that could not make it to the picnic it was more than a wonderful day. The weather was great, the food was good and the fellowship was better.
As for the pet dog show that was an event in itself. There were awards for the top three places in “cutest”, “best trained”, “best dressed” and one award for “best of show”. The judges had a task to keep the owners of the entrants from creating issues for the other owners.
At the close of the picnic everyone had eaten too much, all had a good time and the fellowship was worth all the planning and work. Thanks to Ideal Court for an “Ideal Picnic”.
In closing, hope to see everyone that can make it to the MM Degree for Brother Kris Oliver on Saturday evening July 24th at the lodge.
New Roof
As some of you were probably aware, the roof on our lodge was defective and allowing water to penetrate. After six months of paperwork, phone calls, e-mails and inspections, the manufacturer of the faulty shingles finally supplied the prorated dollar amount remaining on the warranty. Unfortunately this amount was not quite half of what was required... yet your lodge prevailed! Last fall the old materials were removed from the building and a new roof was installed. This should protect your lodge for many years to come.
MadMad Raises over $6000 at 2010 Flower Show
During the 2009 December stated meeting there was discussion of the upcoming 2010 Flower Show. Symmes Township and the Cincinnati Horticultural Society have a 5-year contract beginning with the 2009 show. It takes place at the Symmes Township Park directly across the street from your lodge.
Brother Tony J. Percifield, being a natural entrepreneur, organized a project to sell parking spots during the flower show. The Flower Show was open to the public from Saturday April 17th through Sunday April 25th, 2010. Over the course of these 9 days, we gathered a substantial amount that has been added to the working funds of your lodge. If you are interested in the details of this successful event, contact Brother Percifield at (513) 673-8149.
New Candidates
Your lodge has several candidates making their way through the degrees towards becoming a Master Mason. Please come out to your lodge and watch or perhaps brush off your memory and assist with the work. Please contact the lodge webmaster with any questions.
At our June stated meeting, Brother Kris Oliver presented and passed his Entered Apprentice Proficiency Exam. After the completion of the exam your Worshipful Master began the scheduling of Brother Oliver’s Fellow Craft degree. At that time, a visitor (William Laseur) from Emery Lodge #258 was present and made a unique suggestion: the following Wednesday evening was their June stated meeting and at that time their Past Masters would be presenting the FC degree. Currently they did not have a candidate and as such would be presenting the degree with a pro tem so as to meet the requirements of the Grand Lodge of Ohio. Emery offered to present Kris Oliver's FC degree as courtesy work for 419, allowing us to give a fine degree to Kris, and them to fulfill a requirement of the Grand Lodge of Ohio. The offer was most warmly received and the work was scheduled.
On the evening of Wednesday 9th of June, Brother Kris Oliver received his FC degree in full form. Emery provided a very nice meal prior to the opening of lodge, the fellowship was welcoming. It was quite a presentation and many of the Past Masters performing the work had been Master over 25 years ago. There were a good number of 419 members present for the evening and I know Brother Oliver appreciated that. Your own WB Ted Vinegar, PM presented the FC Charge and Brother Tony Percifield, LEO presented the education material to Brother Oliver. All present had a good meal, a good time, and retired from the work looking toward a pleasant close to the evening. Brother Oliver received a great degree!
